Actually Archie comics has had interracial relationship since the 80's. Even Archie has date minority chicks, but they were minor characters and usually just part of an assortment of random one dates.

What? You got an honest to goodness black person, true she is a quarter-black, but still, playing a black movie character and you wanna deny her?

Oh please if Archie didn't date her but you found out he has dated Josie and Melody you would say that's racist, now that he wants to try an African berry you mock it.

Dude, why are they in a small hick town like Riverdale in the first place? Why is Veronica in a public school? The often repeated reason is Mr. Lodge doesn't want himself and his family to become snobby elitists.

It's called dating. They date other people. You should see Veronica's social calendar. If there get serious, they go steady.

"Common sense"? Veronica's not protesting against the relationship because of common sense, she's protesting it out of jealousy. She doesn't mind Archie dating other females because she thinks it'll just be temporary, she only minds when she looking for attention or when she think it'll be more that a fling, like Betty and Cheryl Blossom, but with Betty they have come to an agreement which she believes she will eventually win.

Why do you ask why some of the minor characters don't have their own titles while some of the main ones have more that one? Because it doesn't sell, Reggie had his own titles back in the 50's and 60's, Dilton in the 90's. Moose, Midge and Chuck are just too minor and one dimensional, sure they have given them all more depth, but still, do you think there is an audience for a black Archie character series?

Riverdale has a ghetto or should I say ghettos, they are either being renovated or they exist so the criminals and the poor have a place to hang out.

It's young love, so any time apart seems like forever. The friends are stalking their friend because they want to be supportive as soon as possible whatever the outcome is and plan accordingly.

At least it seems most of the internet likes the story.

That's right. The awkwardness of either scenario is a pointed criticism or racism in general. Race should never have been the "elephant in the room". But since it is, I get to point it out whether they avoid an interracial
relationship or make an event out of it, the way they did.

The article that you linked to discusses the racist attitudes at Archie Comics years ago, that led to the Weird "See Archie with a black chick" Carnival freak show atmosphere around this current story.

What awkwardness? Race is not "an elephant in the room" in the story. They just treat it as Archie strongly in love with another female. There's no hoopla over her race. Nor do you see the local clan division showing up to protest. Sure it's a big deal that Archie is part of an interracial relationship in an Archie comic book, but it's showing you it's not a big race deal in the Archie universe.

The pairing of the series’ franchise player with Valerie, who has been part of Archie canon for just over four decades, might well be received positively by fans – Sims notes that fans responded positively to a BM/WF potential pairing just two years ago before editors scuttled it – but it’ll be interesting to note how long this romance is allowed to bloom after the book’s release in April.

Yeah, sure, they discuss the racist attitudes of the past but it doesn't seem like they think it's bad nor a carnival atmosphere. The only people who think this is a carnival freak show are the non-regular readers.
